Today 10/03/10 – Outing

What a day!!!! Loads of fun. It was simply a great day were the children experienced the library and played in the sunshine at Floriana’s garden.

Library: The librarian carried out a very simply talk about books and the library in general. First the children were taken in the children’s section by another librarian, to be introduced to different types of books.  The children also learnt that when books have either the green or the yellow tag on the side, these books were adequate for their age.

The children browsed through the books, were they could easily  choose anything triggers their interest. They quickly started picking up all sorts of books and really and truly they wanted to get more then one book. For today I explained that they’d better choose the one that they really liked and then later on they can come along with their parents to choose some more.

They were so cute, when given their cards they were able to go next to the counter to punch out their books. They couldn’t really reach and some they even tried to jump to see what the librarian was doing :o >

Given that the sun was shining outside, we were all so excited to finish off our morning in Floriana’s Garden. First they ate their lunch then…………………………………… the much awaited fun bit!!!! Swings. They all played so nicely and abided with the rules. Well done kids.

Today 08/03/10

Hello,

Given the bad weather we still managed to have a lovely day.

Now that the children know all the letters except for the letter ‘x’, which we will be doing later on this week, we can carry alot of activities and play  different reading games. They enjoyed playing tombola with 3 letter words and loved playing with the jigsaw puzzle which formed a picture with a 3 letter word underneat. Just browse through the photos to have a taste what it was like today.

During break, the children decided to come up with a puppet show. They re-arranged the chairs and took it in turns to act out using the puppets. This was totally unplanned and managed it completly on there own.

We also managed to finish off the letter ‘k’ and tomorrow we will be finishing off the no ’3′. This week we will be covering letter ‘e’ and no. ’8′

Good night

Ms Gaby

Today 19/02/10

Ideas in making reading fun.

Today we managed to read our first Reading book. Bob Bug. Before actually reading the book we went through a fun activity of playing with the 3 letter words flashcards found in this book. Using masking tape, I stuck a couple of strips on my top. The children had to read their 3 letter word flashcard and if read correctly they could stick it on my top. There is no need to tell you how much the kids loved this activity!!! In fact I asked them to do the same with you parents once they are at home. :o >

Following this, the children got a new friend on their little index finger. Their ‘reading buddy’ – a smiley face. Like this the children were all enthusiastic in pointing to the letters while reading the book.

Topic : Today we continued with our ‘Space’ topic. The children were divided in 3 different groups. Each group had to create one of the following : The Moon, The Sun and The Earth.

All the children had to come up with ideas on how we can create the above. What  materials to be used, what colours…. etc.

The Moon : Ended up with moustache and cotton wool

The Sun : Ended up with loads and loads of glitters, pom poms and a smily face.

The Earth : Not finished :o > But this group ran away from school to collect some grass :o > (School entrance with me) They have this idea of sticking the grass to represent the land and sticking some blue material to represent the sea. To be continued on Monday.

This was a great activity were the kids, were left free to express and share their ideas.

Well done kids. I simply enjoyed myself today

Today’s cooking Activity

Hi Everyone,

Hope you liked our cookies today. Children enjoyed rolling out the pastry, cutting out shapes, (eating and licking) covering with melted chocolate then sprinkle/eat with 1001s, coconut and smarties.

Sorry, only one photo today. Couldn’t get hold of the camera due to melted chocolate on my hands :o >

Today 03/12/09

Hi there,

Hope you are all getting better and I’ll see you back at school on Monday.

On Friday we have our first dress rehearsal at school. Please send all the costumes as soon as possible so I can check them out. On Thursday I’ll be sending them back, since on friday the children need to come ready dressed in their costumes.  Also  send uniform in a plastic bag, so we will be able to change their clothes.

Note : Anyone who is willing to come over to school at around 10:30 to help out in changing all the kids back into their uniform, please let me know. I would appreciate all the help you can offer.

Today :

  • No introduction of new letter.
  • Maths introduced no. 11 and counted in sequence up to no 11.
  • We practiced number writing with chalk outside. The children all ended up covered in chalk. A nice way to clean up messy pants, tops and hands is to take the kids on the turf and ask them to walk on all fours like dogs. Like this we cleaned up the front of the pants. The back part was in the same state so, I asked them to walk on their patata and Voila clean pants :o > To finish off the cleaning they were doing rolly pollies all along the turf  :o > They loved it and said that the Turf was magic since it cleaned off their pants.  Making sure that everyone was fresh and clean, I gave them a wipe to clean off face and hands!!!
  • During lunchtime we started decorating our class, with some Christmas music in the background. The children loved helping out and even ended up decorating themselves!!
  • To finish off our day we had a needle and thread activity, which involves lots of hand eye co-ordination and concentration. Mind you needle is made out of plastic.

Have a look at photos below, of what it was like today.
