The kids loved the activity, painting the leaf then printing with it on a white sheet of paper. Tomorrow we will be continuing our activity, by creating an Autumn tree, with our leaves and trunk.
Take care

Today 22/10/09
Hi to all,
As you are all aware today, the outing had to be cancelled due to very bad weather in the Manikata area. We were directly contacted by the farmers, not to go since it was raining heavily with thunders too. So the easy way out, to solve this problems and not to leave the kids disappointed was to invent a story for the kids
> and here it is:
Mamma Mia you know what happened????? (by this point I already had the kids attention) since it was raining heavily all the ducks and hens got scared and started running around on the farm until the farmer couldn’t see them anymore!!! (you should see the kids faces
>) I continued by telling them that now the farmer had a huge job in trying to find all his animals and he phoned us to let us know that it was impossible for us to go since no one was on the farm. Imsomma I finished it off by saying that we shall be going in 2 weeks time.
As easy as that, some were worried, some didn’t even bother to be worried so we just continued with our work in class.
We finished off revising all letters, plus I introduced the new letter ‘n’. Click on the link to listen to the song. For Math we finished off our Long and Short concept on the Shape Data and Measure workbk. For craft we also managed to finish our smiley necklace.
We ended up our day with some relaxation on the carpet, listening to Classical Music and our ‘Horton hatches an egg story’ which concluded all.
Take care
Ms Gaby

Week 19/10/09 -22/10/09
Another Monday brings new letter and new number. These are the letter p and the number 0
Letter P:
We managed to cover both the story and the song. For those kids who were absent today, please do narrate the story for them, referring to the story pack given prior. With regards to the song, please click on the link below and enjoy singing the song together.
For the letter ‘p’ we covered the following words for the ‘Initial Sound’: panda, pumpkin, pencil, pig, princess and potatoes.
Number 0:
For the majority of the kids number’0’ is not a number. For them we start counting the numbers from no ‘1’. So please make it a point that when you are counting together, encourage the kids to start counting from 0.
A value game that you can use with the kids regarding no. 0 is the following:
Ask the kids to give you ‘1’ pencil, then ‘4’, then ‘6’ then ‘7’ and finally ‘0’. Just watch their expression. Point out that 0 means nothing. Another game would be, to ask them to choose ‘0’ sweets and ‘4’ sweets. Like this the kids will start realizing that in fact ‘0’ means nothing. It’s quite a difficult concept to understand, but with such exercises they will get the hang of it quickly.
If you have any difficulties with reference to the above, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Take care
Ms Gaby

Thursday 15th October
Today we managed to start of with the letter ‘i’. They listened to the story and learnt the new song. We also revised all the learnt letters, that are s,a,t. We concluded our English lesson by doing some pre-writing activities of the letter ‘i’. Also I managed to ask/assess all the kids on all the covered letters. Mainly it was a very positive outcome. They managed to name the letter sound when flashcards were shown.

For the Maths lesson we introduced the number ’6′. This was described as papa with a big fat tummy. They simply loved it. No offence to any daddies but I have to invent these kind of things for the kids to associate a story with the number.
The following are all the stories invented so far :
no 1 : straight soldier
no 4 : standing daddy, sleeping mummy and child jumping on mummy’s tummy
no7 : sleeping daddy, standing mummy
no 6 : daddy with a big fat tummy.
The children are actually shown drawings of these numbers/ figures. It is very funny for them, infact around the time I am drawing on the board, there is total chaos in class. Everyone laughing their little heads off. So cute!!!
For Maths I also managed to check out each and every child’s achievments. They were asked to write nos 1,4,7,6 on their little white board. They did quite well!!!. Do revise the number names with your kids.
A constant revision will be done in class throughout the week of all the letters and numbers learnt.
Thank you for your support
Ms Gaby
