Today 27/05/10
Hi to all,
What a great experience today!!! It was great seeing all the children around his Excellency the Archbishop of Malta. They were so excited and couldn’t stand still for a second. His excellency knew exactly how to deal with the little ones, always with a smile on his face.
Both Hannah and Lewis, who were the lucky ones whose names were drawn up, were able to present him with a special poster which the children prepared in preparation for his visit. He simply loved it and wanted to take a group photo with all the children and teachers.
Well, a bit of humour is never left out when you are around the little ones. Yesterday in preparation for his arrival I was explaining to the kids that when the Archbishop comes in class, we should welcome him by saying : ” Good morning His Grace”, very eagerly all the children repeated the phrase but……………………… in the wrong way. In a chorus they chanted ” Good Morning Miss Grace”
> Luckily enough after a lot of drilling today they managed to say it perfectly well. For our little Jade, that was not enough and it seemed that she wasn’t really sure who this man was, so to clear out a bit her doubt, she stepped up closer to him and by pulling a bit his sleeve she asked ” But, are you the real Grace?” Simply sweet……………. so innocent. His excellency was so touched that he was really laughing and telling everyone what the little one asked him. I’m sure this episode will be kept in a small corner of his excellency’s memory.
Take care
Good night

Zak and the Vet
As you might have noticed, this book was not returned even though we started reading a new book. Reason for this, is that I intend to go back to it at the end of the year given that there are a couple of difficult words which I would like to revise.
Thank you
Ms Gabriella

Some new fun literacy games
At the moment in class we are carrying on our literacy activities, with some new games.
Game 1 : Clapping out the beats in words. ( In simple words, splitting in syllabi)
For ex. Paul = 1 beat
Maxine = 2 beats.
Try it out with your kids using their own names, your names, their daddy’s name…… etc
It’s a fun game that the children really like
Game 2 : Rhyming words. You can ask your own kids for ex. what rhymes with hat…………………. answer bat, sat, mat, fat… etc
you can play this game using any 3 letter words. The aim behind all this, is for the children to become more aware of the oral sounds in words. This will surely help their reading skills.
Game 3 : Reading silently. Today I’ve explained to the children how to read words, without actually spelling out load.
My explanation : When they see a word, they can spell out the words with their inner voice, the sounds will travel up to their brains, were the brain starts working really fast and asks the mouth to speak out the word. It really worked. You should see all the kids, trying to spell out silently and then read out loud the word. Well done to all for the immense effort.
Try this one out at home and let me know

Take care
Good night
